One of the hardest things to do in life is to change direction.

As they say in physics, an object in motion continues in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by forcematt carson smww success story

Without force, we all continue in the direction we’ve been headed. For some, that means continuing down a career path that neither satisfies or stimulates you, just because it is easier to keep moving in the direction you've been headed.

For Matt Carson, change is what he needed, and what he fought to achieve.

“I was tired of sitting at a desk, doing something I didn’t even like so I decided to take a class with SMWW", recalls Carson. “I wanted to work in baseball, any capacity, for as long as I can remember. I got distracted in college and never quite got to where I wanted to be, until I found SMWW and their fantastic program.”

Matt enrolled in SMWW’s Baseball GM and Scouting course taught by former Dodgers GM Dan Evans, and longtime Dodgers front office executive Hank Jones.

“My course mentors were incredible. They have so much knowledge about the inner workings of baseball that are rarely talked about outside of Front Offices. They provide ideas about how to conquer certain obstacles and where exactly to look for those answers.

“I couldn’t have asked for better mentors.”

Front office and scouting skills weren’t all Matt learned, he also learned about perseverance, recognizing a career change wasn’t going to come easy. But, if he worked hard, his dream of working in baseball could come true.

“Working in sports is just like playing sports. Sometimes, you’re going to fail. That doesn’t mean you quit, it means you get back up and try again until you reach that goal. I came into the course afraid that I wouldn’t finish or would give up. The support from instructors and classmates kept me motivated and I finished what I started.”

After completing the Baseball GM and Scouting course with Dan Evans and Hank Jones, Matt set out to find his next career utilizing his new skills, and the power of the SMWW brand.

“I applied for a “Scout/Field Manager” position with Perfect Game and during my interview, I spoke about completing the SMWW Baseball GM and Scouting course. The person interviewing me mentioned that I was chosen for an interview because of my association with SMWW.

“That really hit home for me and validated my decision to join SMWW’s network of alumni.”

Now, instead of sitting at a desk doing a job he didn’t love, Matt Carson is watching baseball games, tracking pitches on Perfect Game’s software and writing up scouting reports on players for recruiting purposes.

SMWW was the force Matt Carson needed, and he couldn’t be happier with his change in direction.

“Anyone looking to take a course with SMWW - just do it. There’s literally no downside. If working in sports is your dream, there’s no better place to start down that path than with SMWW.”
